As a game begins, there is one copy of an 8*8 chess board, with the squares taking on the color assigned to the piece at that square. As moves are made, the colors change in the squares. The squares start with one edge size; then, as the game progresses, the edge size decreases, and additional copies of the board are drawn. Every copy, however, displays the same movement of the chess pieces.
In the second version (Board Sets - Static), the size of each square, and the number of copies of the board that fit on the screen, is static throughout the game. I chose 8 pixels simply because the display that size generated appealed to me (and is best seen in full screen on a large screen).
